Overview

About cochlear implants at Shaba

A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted device that gives a person with moderate-to-profound sensorineural hearing loss a modified sense of sound. It bypasses the normal acoustic hearing process and stimulates the auditory nerve directly with electrical signals.

How it works

Four steps,one team.

  1. Candidacy

We look at the whole picture before recommending an implant — and say so when it is not the right step.

  2. Preparation

Families understand the device, the surgery pathway and the commitment that follows.

  3. Mapping

Settings are programmed and refined over months as listening develops.

  4. Rehabilitation

Auditory-verbal therapy builds meaning from sound, with parents as partners.

Questions

Before yourfirst visit.

What is mapping?

Mapping is the programming of a cochlear implant processor. Each electrode’s levels are set for the recipient, then adjusted over time as their responses and listening needs change.

Can mapping be done remotely?

Yes. Shaba provides online and remote mapping and counselling. Families across India used it during the pandemic lockdowns, and it remains available for those who cannot travel.

Which implant systems do you support?

Shaba works with Cochlear (Nucleus, Kanso), MED-EL (SYNCHRONY, SONNET, RONDO) and Advanced Bionics systems, and stocks their accessories.

Is EMI available?

EMI through Bajaj Finserv is available for cochlear implant purchase, surgery, upgrades and accessories. Please call the centre to confirm current terms and eligibility.
