Biography

Precise with the technology. Patient with the people.

Dr. Fatema Jagmaag founded Shaba Speech and Hearing Centre in 1995, after qualifying as an audiologist and speech pathologist at BYL Nair Charitable Hospital, where she graduated first in her class.

She has undergone extensive training in candidacy selection and mapping of cochlear implants in India and across the globe, and is recognised for outstanding results and path-breaking work with children and adults with cochlear implants and speech-language impairment.

Families describe a practice that looks beyond the ear: a child’s eyesight, attention, behaviour and confidence are all part of the picture. During the pandemic lockdowns she continued implant mapping and therapy remotely for families across India.

In her words

World Hearing Day 2021 — Dr. Fatema Jagmaag, with V Connect Foundation.
Read the transcript

Hearing loss is a silent and invisible impairment, but it has very far-reaching effects and consequences.

A child with a hearing loss not only has a speech and language delay, but is also delayed in his emotional, social and cognitive skill development. And he also misses the opportunity of mainstreaming in society at an age-appropriate level.

So on this World Hearing Day, we should urge all stakeholders to make newborn hearing screening a mandate in our country — so that every child born is tested at birth, intervention happens at an early stage, and all the milestones are achieved by the child.

Thank you.

“A true mentor.”

“Fatema Jagmaag is a very experienced speech therapist and a sincere mentor for children with hearing loss and their parents. Her method of giving language and learning to the child is excellent, and she has a complete approach to the subject. As parents we are satisfied, and find our child in 100% safe hands.”
Rupesh Bansal — Father of Krishiv
“I have been consulting Dr. Jagmaag for more than five years for my hearing issues. By patiently explaining my problem, she also explained how to cope with my hearing loss, apart from the treatment. The best thing is that she is available at all times for any of my hearing-related problems. I highly recommend Shaba to all.”
Fatema Nasir Arsiwala — Patient
“It has been one year since we became associated with this family — a family in which we have our respected doctor. Dr. Fatema Jagmag is a true mentor and inspiration for my child. What can we say about her? She is an encyclopaedia in herself, super optimistic in her approach, a very clear-minded professional, and a blessing for us.”
